Bob Dylan and More
Back in 1964, the days of vinyl, a friend put a record on the turntable.
'Listen to this!' he declared with excitement. It was the first time I heard what was for us then the strange nasal
voice of the early Bob Dylan. We were beginning to get in to the 'folk' scene of the sixties, which was taking more from the USA than the UK. Dylan's songs seemed to say what we were feeling, about life and the world and what was happening in it. Since then he has had many
musical turns, but his influence has always been profound. Dylan Visions, Portraits, and Back Notes is a fantastic compilation tracking the story of Dylan in pictures and prose. With great portraits showing Dylan from his
early days through the changes to the mature Dylan this is an evocative account, beautifully compiled and illustrated. As
Bono says in the forward to this remarkable book: 'Bob Dylan's got you from the cradle to the grave', and I would like to
add 'and we ain't dead yet!'
Dylan's Chronicles is an autobiographical ramble through time. It is a fantastic book and I can recommend it as an enjoyable and
informative read for those of the Dylan generation. It is a very personal account with great insights into the mind of Dylan
through his varied changes over the decades.
