Lourdes
A Portrait of Lourdes by Elle Dunn
The hustle and bustle of people, there is something in the air, an atmoshere of hope, perhaps a tinge of despair. Many
people from many nations, believers at the last chance saloon, yet the overwhelming inpression of Lourdes is of humanity,
its frailty, its fear, its weakness, its strength. A woman falls to the ground before the statue of St. Bernadette where the
many leave their candles...perhaps they hope for a cure, perhaps for forgiveness, perhaps they are there for others..a procession
of thousands, believers and non-believers, night after night..just in case. Here the Photography of Elle Dunn Noble captures
the essence of Lourdes in a portrait.

A line of wheeled chairs up the hill, one after
the other, each with their minder in procession. Each face a story told. Once in a lifetime, young or old, specs in the mist
of time-trod path of old, day after day, year on year, decade by decade.
He who cannot walk, walks here; he who cannot see, sees here; he who does not believe,
believes here; she who cannot be touched is touched here. Those without love, are loved, those without feeling feel. Etched
in their faces.
