Lourdes continued
Back
A Portrait of Lourdes by Elle Dunn
And still they come expectant wait, each candle a breath of life, all children now both young and old a miracle they
wait. There where mother brightly shines, a book, a church, a plinth of stone. This is the word, this is the word immaculately
conceived. And at this time does she appear a ghostly presence for all to see? A light in the mist, a brightness against the
dark.

Now a church in solid stone upon a grotto built;
power and magestic pride we take from humble illiterate Gascon girl of an unfamiliar tongue.
Here they stand who wait their turn, the waters take. Hear the echo of voices past,
voices present, cries anew. Abstract faith in concrete set, a miracle from a tap.
